Plus Size Flappers Costume
The word “Flapper”, when pertaining to the 1920′s, has a multitude of different meanings and depends on who you talk to. My personal favourite is about the fledgling young girl not quite to the state of womanhood yet.
I think she was attempting to be part of the new crowd, alot like it is today what with the punkers, boppers and the many more groupies. You know, the 1920′s flapper girl could be compared to the hippies in the 60′s I would think.
They had their own world and their way of life, alcohol and drugs were rampant as I believe they may have been for the 20′s generation. Sex was also performed without regard to proper etiquette just like the 60′s. I guess you could say the Flapper costumed generation were the future hippies… bet you never would have imagined that.
I also found out that the flapper costume is actually French and was pioneered by Coco Chanel in the jazz era. The idea behind the flapper fashion was to present a boyish look making the female form one of basically a straight line. Curves? That wasn’t cool… can you imagine that?
As much fun as all those 1920′s flapper costumes were they couldn’t last forever. After the great depression of the 30′s and stock market crash the wild side of a young flapper girl was about to “get back to normal!” I know, I highly doubt that too.
So what’s stopping you from strutting your stuff in a 20′s flapper dress for that special Halloween or costume party? Can you imagine what you cold get away with? Now that’s going to be a great party…
